The Christopher Care Bag program is a sewing ministry of the First Presbyterian Church of Bedford.  It was started a few years ago by a woman in the congregation, in honor of her grandson, Christopher, whom she never got to see.  The program has been continued by the ladies of church after the death of the founder, Ethela Matthews, and has flourished to new, exciting levels.  The program includes several different projects that the ladies of the church put together.

The production of the Christopher Care Bags began as a local mission for abused children.  A Christopher Care Bag consists of a home-made heavy fleece sleeping bag, a pillow, and a matching pocket on the bag for goodies.  The bag also contains a Bible story book, a packet of tissues for tears, a "boo boo" bunny, and a teddy bear with a much larger hat that will fit the child.  Attached to the bag is a heart that says "Jesus Loves You" which helps reafffirm to the child that there IS somebody looking out for them.

These bags are given to children who have had to leave everything behind because of domestic violence.

The group also makes teddy bears to give to children who are in diffficult situations.  These bears and hats are made of nearly every fabric imaginable and include hats that will actually fit the children.  These hats are given to the hospitals, police, firefighters, and domestic violence shelters in the Bedford area for children who have been in difficult situations.

The Christopher Care Bag team meets every Wednesday at 10:00am to Noon and invites anybody who is interested in helping to stop by.
